Mackie Adlem aims to up the pressure this coming weekend (25-27 August) at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit to stay in the hunt for the 2023 Mobil 1 V8 Supercars title.
Heading into the fifth round, Adlem is third on the points table. He trails second-placed Thomas Reib by 18 points and Julian Fameliaris by 58. The defending six-time consecutive Champion has not been this far adrift of the top in quite some time. The coming weekend’s round will see a repeat of the three-race, double-points weekend in Cape Town last year, where Adlem triumphed to finish just a few points short of the title. This year he will search for a repeat performance to close the gap to the leaders, with only two rounds at Zwartkops Raceway remaining later in the year.
However, Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit has been a good hunting ground for Adlem. It is the circuit where he clinched his fifth title and started his 2023 season victoriously. Since then, the Adlem Auto Jaguar XKR driver has only taken one more win four months ago at Red Star Raceway.
“We know this will be an important weekend in our campaign” says Adlem. “We need a strong Kyalami (Grand Prix Circuit) outing to bring ourselves back into contention. Results-wise, despite a few good finishes, it was a lean picking spell of late with no victories. Our goal for this weekend could not be any clearer.”
Friday will see two practice sessions, with the qualifying session scheduled for Saturday morning. The first of three races will take place at 15:30 on Saturday, with Races 2 on 3 at 10:30 and 15:00 on Sunday. Race 1 and 2 will be contested over eight laps, while Race 3 will run over ten laps.
Wesbank Festival of Motoring tickets can be purchased via Howler. There will not be live streaming for this event.
