Mobil 1 V8 Supercars points leader Julian Fameliaris will look to extend his advantage this coming weekend (21-22 April) in the second round of the 2023 championship, to be held at Red Star Raceway in Delmas.
Occupying the top spot on the points table, the youngest driver in the series will look to extend his current 10-point advantage. The circuit has seen a host of inspiring performances from the Lube-Net / Di Matteo Racing / Gavin Wilkins Racing Chevrolet Corvette driver.
His most recent outing at the circuit, also around the clockwise layout, marked the start of a spell of form that saw him finish the 2022 season as runner-up.
“We had an excellent weekend last year at Red Star, with pole position, the Race 1 win, another podium and the overall win” says Fameliaris. “We are aiming to repeat this form. It is a bit of a different scenario, though, as we are the ones who will have the targets on our backs this time around. Although this is the first time that I’ll start a race in this series in the lead of the championship, I have been in a similar situation before in the BMW (///M Performance Parts) Race Series, where I won the title in 2016. The team has done an excellent job preparing our car thus far, and I have the utmost confidence that they will again provide me with the best-prepared machine to achieve our goals. I am focused on continuing this trend; we have worked hard for it.”
Saturday’s races will form part of the Extreme Festival event and are scheduled for 12:30 and 16:25. Both races will be contested over eight laps.
Spectator tickets can be purchased directly from Red Star Raceway upon arrival. The entire race programme will be broadcast live on the Mobil 1 V8 Supercars Facebook page and 2WheelsTV YouTube Channel.
